Counterfeit WhatsApp account made in LS Speaker Om Birla’s name; 3 captured

The Odisha Police has captured three individuals in the state for their supposed connections with digital crooks who made the phony WhatsApp character of the Lok Sabha Speaker.

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s office on Wednesday (May 4, 2022) said a phony WhatsApp account was made in his name and the matter has been accounted for to specialists concerned.

“A few reprobates have made counterfeit record in my name with profile photograph and sending messages to MPs and others from nos. 7862092008, 9480918183 9439073870. Matter has been accounted for to specialists concerned. Please disregard calls/messages from these and different numbers and illuminate my office,” the Speaker tweeted.

The threesome had sold pre-initiated SIM cards to the pack and one of it was utilized to make the phony WhatsApp account by utilizing Birla’s image accessible in open space, parliamentary sources mindful of the advancement had said.

Last month, an individual mimicking as Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu had sent messages to individuals, including VIPs, looking for monetary assistance. His office had then alarmed the Ministry of Home Affairs.
