Gujarat Riots Case: P Chidambaram Welcomes Decision To Grant Bail To Activist Teesta Setalvad

New Delhi: Senior Congress pioneer and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) P Chidambaram on Saturday lauded the Supreme Court’s choice to give break bail to dissident Teesta Setalvad in the 2002 Gujarat riots cases and referred to her as “a gutsy warrior for equity.”

In another tweet, the Congress chief refering to the assertion of the previous Justice attacked the middle.

Equity BN Srikrishna, a separated previous appointed authority, said yesterday: if I somehow managed to remain in a public square and say I could do without the Prime Minister, someone could strike me, capture me, toss me behind bars without giving me any explanation,” P Chidambaram said.

Prior on Friday, the Supreme Court conceded break bail to extremist Teesta Setalvad for a situation in which she was captured for supposedly creating records to approach guiltless individuals in the 2002 Gujarat riots cases.

The Supreme Court coordinated Teesta Setalvad to give up her identification till the matter is viewed as by the High Court.

A seat of Chief Justice UU Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia expressed that in its view Teesta Setalvad is qualified for discharge on break bail.

In our view, the litigant (Setalvad) is qualified for the delivery on break bail… We are not thinking about regardless of whether Setalvad is delivered on bail and High Court will choose something similar. We are just on during the pendency of the such application, should the authority of the litigant be demanded or be conceded interval bail. We have considered the matter just from the angle of interval bail… Accordingly, we award Teesta Setalvad break bail,” the seat expressed in its structure.

It added, “The whole matter on merits will be viewed as by the High Court autonomously and uninfluenced by any perceptions made by this court. It is explained that the request passed considering realities including that she is a woman and will not be utilized by other blamed and entries for other denounced be viewed as simply on their benefits.

The request for the court came on a supplication of Teesta Setalvad looking for interval bail. She has moved toward the Supreme Court against the August 3 request for the Gujarat High Court which gave notice to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking for its reaction to bail applications documented by Setalvad and previous Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) RB Sreekumar and posted the meeting on September 19.

Specialist General contended that there is adequate material separated from FIR pointing towards the contribution of Teesta Setalvad in the offenses claimed.
